Group Therapy

Serving The Woodlands, Spring & Conroe, TX Communities

Group therapy is an invaluable tool within the full spectrum of psychological services. It normalizes struggles, provides psychoeducation, develops social skills, encourages empathy, improves communication skills, and provides opportunity for self-reflection and peer feedback. The most useful aspect of group therapy is providing and receiving input from fellow group members who are struggling and healing along with the client. Groups at The Woodlands Behavioral Health and Wellness Center are tailored to the specific needs of our clients. Our groups are lead by experienced therapists.

Social Skills Support Groups

As children grow, one way they learn social behaviors is by watching and interacting with others.

Children with ADD/ADHD often have attention and working memory problems, which undermine this natural learning process and result in these children feeling and acting awkwardly or inappropriately in social situations. They tend to interrupt, not follow rules or directions, and lose self-control. They also have difficulty sharing and cooperating with others, dealing with their anger, feelings and conflict. These behaviors often result in them being rejected by their peers and perceived as difficult by their teachers.

These weekly, on-going, social skills groups will focus on building developmentally appropriate skills-based exercises that will help children who have learning differences, attentional issues and/or are on the Autism Spectrum who also have anxiety issues, mood disorders and/or social struggles. Through interactive activities, role-playing, and guided discussions, we foster effective communication, active listening, empathy, and problem-solving skills. They will they gain the confidence and social competence needed to navigate friendships, school, and beyond.

For 6th-12th grade, the topics will be more specific to the needs collective group and will use real-life scenarios, empowering them to improve communication, assertiveness, conflict resolution, and self-esteem.
